My name is Virginia Slachman. I began as a writer and a college professor. And I still write about racehorses (you can find out more about my novels here) and still teach writing at Washington University. I fell in love with Thoroughbreds during a research stay at a major farm in Lexington, Kentucky. I return to Lexington often to continue learning—and, if I’m honest, to be around the horses.

My own healing journey began with my ex-racehorse, Dorian, who became my teacher. I’ve written much about all that he’s taught me in my blog. Then, because I wanted to share what I’d learned to help people and horses, I became a certified EAL and then a Master Reiki practitioner. And now . . . that’s what I do—empower horses and their humans return to their true nature and come to a deep place of union.

I offer workshops; have group mentoring programs; do one-on-one coaching with individuals and with horses; help individual people and their horses together; and I work with survivors of trauma—this includes humans and equines. Yes, our horses definitely experience and retain trauma, just as we do. And yes, healing for both is not only possible, it’s everyone’s right.
