“The Intuitive Is A Sacred Gift”

“At times I feel certain I am right while not knowing the reason [. . .] the intuitive is a sacred gift.” Albert Einstein

“A sacred gift” . . .That phrase kept echoing in my thought several months ago.

Dorian was boarding at a wonderful barn but began losing his topline and, conformation-wise, he just didn’t look like himself. The barn had lovely indoor and outdoor arenas, trails to ride, really great boarders and staff. The stalls were big and clean, the pastures huge with two ponds. To look at the place, you’d think—wow, paradise! And the other horses at the barn looked fine.

But Dorian didn’t. His body conformation just did not look right to me.

“There is strong evidence that the intuitive processes involve the body accessing a field of information that is not limited by the constraints of space and time.” Findings of a study conducted by Rollin McCraty et al, 2004.

I had the hay tested, got a Purina consultant out for recommendations, spoke to a highly respected equine nutritionist in Florida, had the vet do bloodwork . . . everything came back looking fine.

But I knew something wasn’t right. I didn’t know how I knew, and everything around us seemed in order. Still, something was off . . .

How many times do we know something, but since there’s no “factual” evidence, we dismiss what we deeply, intuitively knows is true?

Earlier that year, I’d put Dorian in training with a friend who was an accomplished rider. And several times a week, I also went out to train him. He and I would go round and round in the outdoor arena—walk, trot, canter . . . over poles, collecting. On and on. Then I had the chiropractor out and still, Dorian did not bounce back.

At one point I reached out to him and asked what was going on, since he obviously wasn’t himself.

In a flash an onslaught of information came to me. Dorian showed me how hard he’d tried for all those years on the racetrack. And how much of a failure he’d felt like. He was one of his breeder’s top prospects as a two-year-old, but because of a breathing issue (as it turned out) he wasn’t able to perform as they’d expected on the racetrack.

Animal Kingdom and Dorian

Not prevailing on the racetrack wasn’t his fault at all, but he still felt that he’d let everyone down.

Now, I had given him another “job” by putting him back in training. That triggered this long ago trauma he’d experienced. Certainly, I’d given him quite another type of job, but still . . . he was mighty unhappy. He just wanted to be a horse and enjoy his life. No more jobs!

As you can imagine, I felt terrible. Immediately, I stopped the training. I had been giving him Reiki treatments, and it became clear in those that his digestive track also was upset. I changed his food. All that helped, but it wasn’t enough.

And then, in a fairly effortless way, a new barn opportunity presented itself. The owner came out to meet Dorian and in two days, picked him up and took him to his new home. My friend Shannon helped move him and, once there, we sat in the pasture and watched as Dorian calmly and happily began grazing.

Shannon looked at me and said, “I think his topline is already coming back!”

Within a week, Dorian’s body condition resumed its normal appearance. He made a best friend, he grazed, we rode, we did ground work, we hung out. He’s healthy again. And content. And maybe a little bored—but that’s ok for now. He’s had enough jobs in his life, that’s for sure.

Dorian and his best friend, Casey!

I learned a great lesson in all this. We do have an innate intuitive capacity to know things when everything around us might speak otherwise. In those cases, if we don’t listen . . . well, then nothing changes, nothing resolves, nothing heals.

So if something comes to you and the “outer appearance” seems to conflict with it . . . Know what you know.

You’ll never go wrong listening to that inner voice. Listen to it and then follow it. The path is open before you. All you have to do is take it.
